How to Maintain the Multiple Activation Bypass Valve (MCBV)

Multiple activation bypass valve is a set of short sub which can be opened and closed for many times. It is generally installed in special BHA such as directional, speed-up,LWD and so on. It can open and close the bypass hole in time for special operation according to the requirements of downhole conditions, so as to enhance the applicability of special BHA, improve production efficiency and reduce well control risk.

Onsite Maintenance

  • The tools should be kept above 0 ℃. Short time transportation or on-site standby below 0 ℃ will not affect the tools. However, if the time is long, the tools should be kept above 0 ℃. In addition, the assembled tools should be kept at - 10 ℃ for no more than 7 days.
  • In the high temperature environment, the tools should not be placed in the direct sunlight. If they must be stored outdoors, the surface of the tools can be covered  with canvas or other shading materials.
  • after construction, the tools shall be washed with clean water and then with soapy
  • When the multiple activationbypass valve is activated for to go up and down the drill floor and  handle many times , the wire guard shall be taken, and the lifting and placing shall be stable.
  • when placing and checking on site, use 3-4 wooden squares or steel pipes to level the multiple activationbypass valve.
  • After pulling out each time, the multiple activation  bypass valve each part thread should be checked if damaged or broken

Parts Qualification

  • clean all parts, remove and repair burr and slight damage on all sealing surfaces and thread surfaces of parts.
  • If the damage of connecting thread surface and shoulder surface is less than 0.25 mm, it can be repaired. If it is more than 0.25 mm, it should be replaced.
  • Check the Cr plated sealing surface of the upper sub. If there is a notch, dent oruneven wear with a depth greater than 0.25 mm, replace the part.
  • Check the sliding sleeve. It is required to besmooth and the surface shall be free of stretch marks. If there are notches, dents or uneven wear with depth greater than 0.25 mm, the part shall be replaced.
